Traditional Doll, San Pedro Carchá

Handcrafted doll. The embroidered blouse (güipil) represents the beauty, purity, and modesty of a woman; the drawings within, represent nature. The skirt (corte) represents the sky, darkness and the four cardinal points in our worldview. The hair piece (tupuy) represents the blood that runs in our veins and the nine months of gestation that a woman goes through. The earrings, necklaces (chachales) and rings represent nature, since each of them contains different shapes. The napkin signifies respect for Ajaw (The Creator.)
